West Virginia's athlete of the week was an easy choice, being that he set a WVU record during a perfect week for his team.
WVU men's soccer goalkeeper Nick Noble recorded his 29th shutout as the Mountaineers downed Bucknell last Tuesday. That performance set a West Virginia
career record, and continued an outstanding early season run by the Damascus, Md., native. Noble has blanked the opposition in three of West Virginia's first four games this year. Not coincidentally, WVU is off to a 3-0-1 start, which has yielded national rankings as high as number ten.
Noble did yield his first goal of the season against #17 Cal State Northridge, but he also had five saves as the Mountaineers came away with a 2-1 win to preserve their undefeated record. He also had one save against Bucknell. Through the first four games, Noble has played 390 minutes and allowed just one goal while recording 10 saves.
After earning the award, Noble certainly didn't rest on his laurels. The senior keeper recorded five saves during Friday night's shutout win over Cincinnati.
