Freshman Earns WVU Honor

Cross country runner Marie Louise Asselin has been named the West Virginia athlete of the week for a standout performance at the BIG EAST Championships.

The true freshman continued her breakout year for WVU at the BIG EAST Championship, finishing 22nd out of 148 runners with a time of 21:44. Asselin's finish helped WVU's team earn a sixth-place finish at the championships.

The Sarnia, Ontario, Canada native has had a strong first year as a Mountaineer. Her successful day in Boston comes on the heels of her first place finish at the Golden Flash Invitational (10:45.06). Her win there helped pace the Mountaineers to a team win in that event. The true freshman also finished 12th (22:15) at the National Open on Oct. 7.

WVU continues competition in the Mid Atlantic Regional Championships on Nov. 11.
