Despite compiling a 15-2-3 mark, West Virginia's men's soccer team was slotted as a number six seed in the upcoming NCAA tournament.
The Mountaineers' seeding was high enough to earn a first round bye, however. WVU will face the winner of the North Carolina-Greensboro - Virginia Tech game on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 6:00 p.m. at Dick Dlesk Stadium. West Virginia
would also host the winner of the Cincinnati-Northwestern-St. Louis
portion of the bracket, should the Mountaineers advance. St. Louis, the number 11 seed, will face the winner of the Bearcat-Wildcat battle.
"I am happy with the draw we received," head coach Marlon LeBlanc said. "How can you complain about being seeded sixth in the country? This is undoubtedly one of the greatest days in Mountaineer men's soccer history."
The women did not fare quite as well, and will have to hit the road for their opening round match against Virginia on either Nov. 10 or 12. WVU will travel despite holding a vastly superior record (14-3-3) to that of the Cavaliers (10-7-2).
