White Garners Local Honor

DAPHNE, Ala. –West Virginia University quarterback Patrick White, a redshirt sophomore from Daphne, was the overwhelming choice for the United States Sports Academy's October Alabama Athlete of the Month award.

"I'm thrilled to hear about this award," said White. "With all the great athletes who come from the state of Alabama, this is certainly a real honor. It's good to know that people still think about me back in my home state and follow the Mountaineers."

White set a Big East Conference record for most yards rushing in a game by a quarterback when he carried the ball 15 times for 247 yards in the Mountaineers' 41-17 victory over Syracuse. He also rushed for 102 yards on 15 carries and was 9-of-14 passing for 156 yards in WVU's 37-11 win over Connecticut.

The Academy's Alabama Athlete of the Month is selected by a voting committee comprised of former Alabama athletes, state-wide media, and Alabama sports organization representatives.
