Freshman forward Da'Sean Butler led the Mountaineers to an 87-37 victory over Division II Slippery Rock.
Butler, a 6'7" Newark, N.J. product, led all scorers with 15 points on 7-13 shooting. West Virginia's sixth man also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds, and filled out the stat line with two assists (including an alley-oop to Wellington Smith) and four steals.
In the second half, sophomore forward Joe Alexander made a run at Butler for player of the game. The Mount Airy, Md. native finished the game with 14 points, including a pair of highlight reel dunks. Alexander was 5-6 from the floor, and 3-3 from downtown in 21 minutes of action.
Freshman shooting guard Devan Bawinkel continue to impress off the bench. Bawinkel's stat line was almost identical to that of Joe Alexander. Devan finished the game with 13 points on 5-6 shooting, including 3-3 from behind the three point line.
Rob Summers gets a net burner for the second straight game. The senior center was a jack-of-all-trades on Tuesday night, scoring four points, snaring five rebounds, blocking two shots, and taking two charges in 23 minutes of action.
