WVU Alumni Spread the Spirit

The official start of West Virginia University football will begin in the Kanawha Valley with a bang, as the WVU Alumni Association will host the 7th Annual Spirit Rally at the Embassy Suites in Charleston on Tuesday, August 20 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The Pride of West Virginia Pep Band will travel from Morgantown for the occasion to provide their special brand of spirit music. Fans will get the gridiron lowdown from Coach Rich Rodriguez live via satellite straight from Mountaineer Field. This set up will allow alumni chapters across the country the chance to hear directly from the coach. For those who need a little more excitement, the Mountaineer will help charge the atmosphere as only he can.

"We look forward to this event each and every year," explained Steve Douglas, chief executive officer of the association. The alumni in the valley and throughout the region really support us and the university, and we want them to know how much we appreciate it." The event is free to the public. A tailgate buffet is provided.

Mark Martin of our media sponsor, WCHS-TV, Fox-11, will emcee the event. This is the second year the television station has participated in this capacity.

The Kanawha County Chapter of the WVU Alumni Association will offer annual memberships and also sell tickets to its upcoming Badger (Pig) Roast at the Dock Side Grill in honor of the WVU vs. Wisconsin game, September 7. For more information on that event, call 304-346-5990.
