Highlight Play

Wellington Smith's rebound dunk against Savannah State had the Coliseum buzzing on Saturday evening.

Smith, who has been the tenth man in John Beilein's rotation during the early part of the 2006-07 season, came up with the highlight play of the night against Savannah State.

Smith knifed down the lane and leaped high to rebound a missed Devan Bawinkel shot, then slammed it home with two hands as the Coliseum crowd roared.

Rebound dunks have been something of a rarity for West Virginia over the past few seasons, so the slam likely generated a bit more buzz than it would have at, say, UConn. However, the play demonstrated the athleticism tht runs much deeper in this edition of the Mountaineer basketball team, and perhaps gave a hint of what this team could be capable of in the future.

In this interview, Smith describes the play, and also discusses the challenges of being ready to play as the tenth man in the rotation.
