Mountaineers Prep For Cliff Keen Duals

West Virginia's wrestling team is prepping for its Eastern Wrestling League season with a trip to the Cliff Keen/NWCA National Wrestling Duals this weekend.

The Mountaineers will take part in the presitigious event, hosted this year by Northern Iowa, this weekend. West Virginia opens its participation against Northwestern, the #8 seed in the bracket, on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m.

West Virginia will not field a wrestler in the 174-pound class, as both Kurt Brenner and Joe Clutter are out with injuries.

Should West Virginia knock off the Wildcats, the Mountaineers would fact the winner of top-seeded Missouri and Penn at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

In the latest rankings, West Virginia is just outside Intermatwrestle's Top 25. Brandon Rader is ranked seventh nationally at 141 pounds, while Jared villers is 14th at 197 pounds.

In other individual rankings, Amateur Wrestling News has David Jaregui at eighth, while W.I.N. magazine pegs him at 20th in the 149-pound class. W.I.N also has Kurt Breener at 19th in the 174-pound class.

Following the weekend meet, West Virginia opens EWL competition with back-to-back road trips to Bloomsburg and Clarion on Jan. 20 and 21. WVU then travels to Pitt before finally seeing the home mats on Feb. 9 against Ohio.
