Sanni's Double-Doubles Earn Honors

West Virginia University junior center Olayinka Sanni has been named BIG EAST player of the week for her efforts in guiding WVU to a 2-0 mark last week.

For the week, the Chicago Heights, Ill., native averaged 24.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 37.5 minutes a contest while shooting 17-23 (73.9%) from the field.

In WVU's 74-63 upset win at No. 24 DePaul, Sanni scored a team-high 22 points on a perfect 9-9 shooting from the field with eight rebounds in 37 minutes. The DePaul victory marked the fifth ranked opponent WVU has defeated under coach Mike Carey. It was also WVU's first road win of the season.

In WVU's 69-57 home victory against Providence, Sanni tallied her eighth career double-double, and fifth of the season, with 26 points and a career-best 13 rebounds in 38 minutes. She also made a career-best 10 free throws against the Friars.

In her last five games, Sanni is averaging 62.1% shooting from the field (38-61), 19.4 points and 8.2 rebounds per contest. On the year, she is averaging 13.5 points and 7.0 rebounds a contest.

Sanni is the first Mountaineer to be named conference player of the week since Meg Bulger garnered the honor last season on December 26, 2005.
