Stechschulte Runs Away With AOW

Junior Abbie Stechschulte has been named West Virginia University's athlete of the week after her effort at the Razorback Invitational this past weekend in Fayetteville, Ark.

Stechschulte returned to the Randal Tyson Track Complex for the first time since last season's NCAA Championships and picked up right where she left off, turning in an excellent pentathlon performance.

The Columbus Grove, Ohio, native took first in the event with 3,907 points, the third best performance in Mountaineer history. She won two events in the competition (the 800 meter run in 2:23.24 and the high jump with a BIG EAST qualifying leap of 1.68 meters). She also qualified in the long jump with a personal best of 5.77 meters.

Stechschulte's score was an NCAA provisional qualifying score and is one of the highest scores in the nation so far this season. Stechschulte competed at the NCAA Championship last March in Fayetteville and took 16th in the pentathlon with 3,874 points.
