Ruoff Named To COSIDA Academic First-Team

West Virginia University men's basketball player Alex Ruoff has been named to the 2006-07 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II men's basketball first team as selected by CoSIDA.

The College Sports Information Directors of America chose Ruoff, a history major with a 3.85 GPA, based on athletics and academics. The sophomore has started every game this season for the Mountaineers, averaging 9.5 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. He leads the Mountaineers in assists, with 122, and steals, with 51. Along with Ruoff, Steve Danley of Penn, Chris McNaughton of Bucknell, Juston Conway of Princeton and Kieron Achara of Duquesne earned all-district first-team honors.

Ruoff, a native of Spring Hill, Fla., is now a candidate for Academic All-America honors. Joe Herber received the same award last season for West Virginia and then became an academic All-American.
