Six Time Titlist

Freshman Zoltan Povazsai has been named West Virginia University's athlete of the week after being named the 2007 BIG EAST male swimmer of the year.

Povazsai had a fantastic week at the BIG EAST Championship, winning two individual titles and four relay titles en route to the BIG EAST male swimmer of the year award. Povazsai, a native of Dunakeszi, Hungary, took first in the 500 free (4:22.97) and the 200 free (1:36.47). Both were NCAA ‘B' standards and the 500 free was a school record. He is the second Mountaineer in a row to win the conference swimmer of the year honor. Chris Hagedorn took the award last year.

Povazsai's performance helped power the Mountianeers to the Big East conference men's championship this past weekend. WVU's 17th ranked men's swimming and diving team took first place this past weekend, as it won all but three of the swimming events and beat defending two-time champ and 19th ranked Notre Dame by 4.5 points.

The men's team is only the third squad to win a BIG EAST Championship in school history joining football (1993, 2003, 2004 and 2005) and baseball (1996). Coach Sergio Lopez and his assitants were named BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year.
