Baseball Opens Home Slate

The West Virginia University baseball team will open its home season with a four-game series against Hartford March 10-11.

The Mountaineers and Hawks will meet at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, for a doubleheader. The weekend will close with another doubleheader matchup on Sunday, March 11. First pitch for that game is slated for Noon.

West Virginia (5-3) enters this weekend after a 2-1 showing at the Coastal Carolina Tournament held in Conway, S.C., March 2-4. In a Friday night thriller, WVU came from behind with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to top Marist 6-5 on March 2. Saturday's contest featured a 10-run third inning as the Mountaineers downed Rhode Island 14-9. West Virginia fell to No. 22 Coastal Carolina 16-4 to close out the weekend.

Sophomore Adam White is batting a team-high .472 on the season while junior Tyler Kuhn has posted 11 RBI thus far. Junior starting pitcher Kenny Durst (1-1) is sporting a team-best 2.04 ERA. Fellow junior Matt Yurish has struck out a team high 15 batters in two appearances on the mound this season.

Hartford will open its 2007 season this weekend in Morgantown. The Hawks' first five games of the season were cancelled or postponed due to poor field conditions in Connecticut. Hartford went 11-38 overall in 2006 and 4-30 on the road.
