No Distaff Disappointment

The West Virginia women's basketball team got the nod their male counterparts were looking for on Monday evening.

The Mountaineers didn't have to wait too long for their NCAA dreams to become a reality, as they were revealed as the number 11 seed in the Fresno region of the NCAA tournament.

WVU will face sixth-seeded Xavier, champions of the Atlantic 10 conference, in a Saturday matchup in Austin, Tex. Xavier finished third in the A-10 regular season, then won the conference tournament with a 65-59 win over St. Joseph's. The Musketeers were 26-7 overall and 13-3 in league play. West Virginia finished 20-10 overall and 11-5 in the Big East conference.

A win over the Musketeers would set up a potential second round match-up with the LSU Tigers, who defeated West Virginia 64-25 in the season opener.

The NCAA bid is just the second in fifteen seasons for Mountaineer women's basketball. The team last made the field following the 2002-03 season when West Virginia lost in the first round to Ohio State. The Mountaineers last won an NCAA tournament game back in 1992, when they advanced all the way to the Sweet 16.
