Meeting and Motion

West Virginia head basketball coach John Beilein has reportedly accepted an offer to become the head basketball coach at Michigan, but no statement or official announcement has yet been made concerning the brief reports from two Internet sites.

Beilein, who according to multiple sources met with West Virginia athletic department officials on Monday, did not return calls seeking comment. Attempts to reach other representatives in the athletic and sports information department were also unsuccessful.

It is not known whether substantive negotiations or counteroffers were made by West Virginia, which has been having informal talks about a contract restructuring/extension over the past few months.

After meeting with Michigan representatives at the Final Four in Atlanta, Beilein reportedly returned to Morgantown on Sunday to ponder the offer made by the Wolverines. Although the exact time at which the offer was made is not known, Beilein certainly had enough information from his contacts to begin the decision-making process.

Other sources from Michigan have indicated that Beilein was close to making the call to move to the Wolverine program as well, but none of those sources were named or commented on the record.

West Virginia athletic department officials were reportedly on the job early Monday morning to prepare for the meeting with the coach.
