Emery Honored

Andy Emery is the 2007 winner of the Tom Nickolich Award, presented by the Blue & Gold News to the walk-on member of the Mountaineer football team who has distinguished himself with his attitude and effort.

Emery is the fifth consecutive player from the Mountain State to earn the award, which is presented in the memory of Tommy Nickolich, a native of Fairmont, W.Va., and a former walk-on for West Virginia (1980-82) who died of cancer in 1983. The winner is selected each spring by the Mountaineer coaching staff.

Emery, a senior linebacker from University High School in Morgantown, has been a special teams contributer during WVU's rise to prominence over the past three seasons. A hard worker whose spirit and dedication are typical of walk-ons who overcome long odds to see game action, Emery is the 17th player win the award.

Emery, a membor of the Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll, had 12 tackles as a junior.
