West Virginia University senior gymnast Janáe Cox has been named WVU's athlete of the week after her performance in the 2007 NCAA Southeast Regional on April 14.

The Otisco, Ind., native became the school's first ever 2,000 point scorer after scoring 39.100 points as an all-arounder this weekend to push her career point total to 2,021.75. Cox placed seventh in the allaround and qualified individually for nationals for the third time in her storied career.

No. 5 seeded WVU placed third at the regional with 194.775 points. Only the top two teams advance to the NCAA. The crowd of 3,074 at the WVU Coliseum was the third-highest ever for a meet at that venue.

Cox will close her season with a trip to the NCAA Nationals on April 26-28, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her perfromances helped West Virginia finished the season at 28-9. The 28 wins are a new school record.
