Turf Project Underway

As first reported by BlueGoldNews.com, the new artificial surface for Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium has been selected, and the installation process begun.

The new surface will be FieldTurf Duraspine, the patented product that is engineered to replicate the best things about natural grass, while also delivering a surface that performs consistently in all weather conditions and provides a high performance and safe surface - all with just a fraction of the maintenance required by natural grass fields.

"I am convinced we are installing the best surface out there," says WVU head coach Rich Rodriguez. "Not only will it play extremely firm and fast, but it's the safest surface you can play on today."

"There's no doubt that earning the installation at West Virginia's Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium is another very significant notch in FieldTurf's belt," says FieldTurf CEO John Gilman. "The Mountaineers have one of the nation's top college football programs, and it's an honor to be associated with WVU. Coach (Rich) Rodriguez is one of the game's outstanding coaches, and I know how important it is to him for his players to play on the most state-of-the-art turf available. Mountaineer fans can absolutely count on seeing the world's best turf when their team takes the field against Western Michigan on September 1."

Ballard Sports of Cary, N.C., will install the new surface. The installation is projected to be completed by mid-June. Cost of the project is $901,152.
