Pape Academic Selection

West Virginia University baseball player Jason Pape has been awarded Academic All-District II first team honors by ESPN The Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA).

The second baseman will now move on to the national ballot for the Academic All-America award.

Pape boasts a 3.67 GPA while pursuing a bachelor's degree in business management. The Bethel Park, Pa., native is also a BIG EAST Academic All-Star and a member of the Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll.

After making just 10 starts last season, the former transfer from Allegheny College has begun every game at second base in 2007. A dependable batter hitting in the bottom half of the order, Pape owns a .322 average with 12 doubles and 29 RBI.

On April 14, the senior broke the WVU record for most sacrifice hits in a single season when he registered his 14th sac bunt of the year. Pape now has 17 sacrifices after 47 games.
