Ruoff, Nichols Solid In Loss

West Virginia's Darris Nichols and Alex Ruoff had respectable starts in their play for the Athletes In Action team at the William R Jones Cup tournament in Taipei, Taiwan.

While The U.S team dropped its opener to the Taiwan National Team by the score of 72-67, both Mountaineers made their marks in the contest.

Nichols played 24 minutes and displayed his usual all-around effectiveness. Although he made just two of his eight shots from the floor, the steady senior snared four rebounds and dished out three assists to go along with a block and a steal. And, as usual, Nichols protected the ball as if it were a precious gemstone, suiffering no turnovers on the night. He made one of his two three point attempts to account for his scoring total.

Ruoff, playing 19 minutes, made both of his two point attempts and one free throw. He snagged five rebounds and recorded one assist and one steal.

The Jones Cup is a round robin tournament with all 10 teams playing nine games in nine days. Other competing countries include: Chinese Taipei, Japan, Korea, Qatar, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon and Kazakhstan. Athlete In Action, representing the United States, and Japan are the lone two non-senior National Teams competing in the tournament as preparation for next month's Olympic qualifying tournament in Thailand.
