"The Mountaineers proved that they could hang with the big boys last year…they look to be a deep and talented team in 2007," collegesoccernews.com reported.
The Mountaineers will face four ranked opponents in this year's preseason poll. WVU will face off against No. 2 Duke on Sept. 15, No. 9 Maryland on Sept. 7, and conference foes No. 11 St. John's and No. 18 UConn on Sept. 21 and Oct. 19.
Last season, WVU spent six weeks ranked in the top 10 and three in the top 5, ranking as high as third in the collegesoccernews.com weekly poll. The Mountaineers welcome back eight starters to an experienced squad that has hosted NCAA tournament games in Morgantown the past two seasons, as well as a promising freshman class.
The Mountaineers will travel to Columbus, Ohio, to take part in the Bert and Iris Wolstein Soccer Classic where WVU will battle Big Ten powers Ohio State and Penn State to open the season starting Aug. 31.
