There wasn't much to point at during WVU's 48-17 thrashing at the hands of Maryland on Saturday. However, there were a couple of bright spots worthy of individual honors.
Defensively, James Davis is the BlueGoldNews.com player of the game. Davis was the only Mountaineer defender to get consistent pressure on Maryland's quarterbacks. Davis had one sack for fifteen yards, another tackle behind the line, and several hurries which resulted in incomplete passes.
Davis also broke up a pass in coverage, and was WVU's most consistent defender on the day.
Offensively, we'll have to go again with superback Avon Cobourne. Cobourne was bottled up for much of the day, but did manage a 4.1 yards per carry average on the way to a game high 123 yards on the ground.
Cobourne added 28 yards on a screen pass reception for an all-purpose total of 151 yards despite a great deal of attention from the Maryland defense.
