Players of the Game - Rutgers

A pair of new names are our picks for the player of the game against Rutgers.

On defense, bandit Jermaine Thaxton is the runaway pick for player of the game honors. Thaxton, who did not start, recorded two interceptions and had a beautiful diving breakup of a deep Rtugers pass.

"It seemed like Thaxton was making a lot of plys," head coach Rich Rodriguez said after the contest. "We need players to make big playes, and he did that."

Our offensive pick is a bit unconventional, but well worth consideration.

Mark Fazzolari
Punter Mark Fazzolari was a weapon for the Mountaineers throughout the contest, and was a major reason WVU stayed on top of the field position battle.

Fazz dropped five punts inside the Rutgers twenty yard line to keep the Knights bottled up for much of the contests. His average was only 34.7, but after a half season of struggling with the punt game, Fazzolari's performance was a much needed salve for WVU's punting woes.
