Upward Momentum

West Virginia's pass defense continues to improve each week, and its performance against Rutgers may have been its best of the season.

Fueled by an improved pass rush and more confidence, West Virginia's secondary has been on an upward curve throughout the 2007 season, and it had another very good outing in the team's 31-3 win over Rutgers. WVU held a strong passing attack to just 131 yards, and did not allow any big plays downfield.

While Rutgers receivers helped the effort with some dropped passes, West Virginia's defensive backs also contributed with a couple of timely hits that helped force some incompletions.

In this post-game talk, defensive backs coach Tonyu Gibson discusses those plays, their effect on his his players' confidence, and the challenge ahead.
