Thursday Shorts

There are lots of benefits to playing on Thursday night, but recruiting for the home team isn't one of them.

With long distances to travel and school (and often games) looming the next day, Thursday nights aren't the best times for prospective players to make recruiting visits. Such is the case at West Virginia this week, where the expected visitor list is made up mostly of area players.

However, there are exceptions to the rule, and the two on WVU's list for the Thursday night clash with Louisville are junior college standouts Tevita Finau and Aki Vakalahi. The piar of Phoenix College defenders are slated to take their official look-see at West Virginia on Thursday, and are certainly among the highest of priorities for the remaining slots in the Class of 2008.

One other player making a distance trip is Detroit's Charles Fobbs, a safety prospect from Cass Technical High School. Darius Reeves will also make the shorter jaunt from Gahanna, Ohio to check out the action.

Among the frequent visitors to West Virginia who are again expected to make the trip for the Big East battle are Josh Jenkins, Ryan Nehlen, Deion Spurlock, Jerry Kelly, and Joe Pachuta. Verbal commitment Chris Palmer, who does not have a game until Nov. 22, is also on the prospective visit list, as is Leon Green.

There is always the chance that additional local players can come in for visits, so it would not be a surprise to see more area players make an appearnace for the highly anticipated contest.
