All-American Honors

Despite being overlooked for first team all-Big East honors, West Virginia offensive lineman Ryan Stanchek earned a much more prestigious award over the weekend.

Stanchek, a junior offensive tackle, was a first team selection of the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) on the offensive line. The Cincinnati, Ohio native spearheaded West Virginia's ground game in 2007, and and along with guard Greg Isdnaer, formed the dominant side of the Mountaineer offensive front.

Stanchek was one of three Big East players (George Selvie, DL, USF and Mike Mickens, DB, Cincinnati) to earn a spot on the FWAA's first team.

For 64 years, the FWAA has selected an All-America team with the help of its members and an All-America Committee which represents all the regions in the country.
