Players Stunned

West Virginia's football team was stunned with the announcement of the deaprture of WVU head football coach Rich Rodriguez for Michigan.

Many players were taken aback by Rodriguez' brief announcment. "It's an absolute shock," said one player.

Just one day earlier, many players, including Steve Slaton and Owen Schmitt, were confident that Rodriguez would stay. However, that turned around between Saturday and Sunday, when Rodriguez came into a 1:30 p.m. team meeting and announced he was leaving.

According to multiple sources who were privy to the meeting, Rodriguez did not answer questions from his players.

Several West Virginia recruiting targets, including at least one that has made a verbal commitment to West Virginia, said that Rodriguez had been in touch with on Sunday to announce his departure for Michigan.
