Alexander Nabs Big East POW

West Virginia junior forward Joe Alexander posted a game-high 20 points against UMBC to earn Big East conference player of the week honors.

Alexander made nine of 11 shots from the floor, in the 86-62 over the Retrievers, which was the Mountaineers' only game of the week. Alexander also grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots. He leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 16.2 and 7.1 averages, respectively.

The Mountaineers have a six-game winning streak after beating UMBC. Alexander led the team in scoring for the fifth time in the last six games.

WVU is 24-3 in its last 27 nonleague games. All eight victories this season have been by double digits. WVU's average scoring margin is +29.4, which is first in the Big East. The Mountaineers are also first in the league in scoring offense (86.7) and are second in scoring defense (57.2). Alexander is averaging a team-leading 16.2 points followed by guard Alex Ruoff at 15.4.
