POG: WVU-Georgetown

West Virginia's trip to the 2008 Big East Championships ended on semifinal Friday with a loss to Georgetown.

The Mountaineers were led by sophomore forward Da'Sean Butler, who continued his career success at Madison Square Garden despite the loss to Roy Hibbert and the Hoyas.

Butler led West Virginia with 16 points, pulled down three rebounds and dished out three assists in 38 minutes of play.

NET BURNERS

  • One day after scoring a career-high 34 points in a quarterfinal win over Connecticut, junior forward Joe Alexander proved that he is indeed human. Georgetown challenged Alexander early and often on both ends of the court, holding him to 12 points on just five-of-16 shooting from the field.

  • Prior to the game, former Mountaineer basketball player Dave Allara passed out dozens of gold t-shirts in support of the Mountaineers. The front of the shirts were adorned in blue with the phrase "WVU BASKETBALL WE BELIEVE" while the back read "HUGGINS FAN CLUB". Allara was a teammate of Huggins at WVU.

  • The Mountaineers are now 0-2 all-time in the Big East Championships against Georgetown. Previously, the Hoyas knocked off West Virginia back in 2000 on a buzzer-beating three-pointer by guard Kevin Braswell.
