Spring Practice Report - Day Two

The Mountaineers went through a lengthy, two-hour-plus practice session Saturday morning, marking day two of spring drills for WVU.

Again West Virginia worked extensively on the passing game, doing both seven-on-seven and full team passing drills during the practice, which, like day one, was a non-contact session in which the players were dressed in just helmet, shorts and jerseys. The contact work will begin next week when the Mountaineers will practice in shells (helmets, shoulder pads and shorts) on Monday and in full pads on Wednesday.

This depth chart doesn't contain the names of a number of returning lettermen, who did not practice Saturday. Wide receiver Dorrell Jalloh (excused absence for a class trip) missed the first two days of practice, but he's expected to be back on the field Monday. But a number of others will miss most or all of spring practice with a variety of injuries they suffered last season and are currently rehabbing. Those who will be out include: linebacker Reed Williams, defensive lineman Scooter Berry (will probably practice some later in the spring), tight end Sam Morrone, offensive guard Greg Isdaner, center Mike Dent, offensive tackle Jon Walko and offensive guard Derek Hayes.

Saturday's practice was watched by a large contingent of curious spectators, as it was Junior Day for the Mountaineers. There were approximately 75 prospects, who are currently high school recruits, as well as their parents and/or coaches, in attendance at Saturday's practice. Those recruits came from West Virginia and many of the surrounding states, and also as far away as New Jersey and Delaware.

In addition, many of next year's invited walk-ons, who will join the WVU football team next fall, were at practice. There were 14 of those invited walk-ons, as well as their parents, watching Saturday's drills.
