Long Wait

Jamie Smalligan has waited a long time for a trip to the NCAA Tournament, and now that he's here he doesn't intend to waste the opportunity.

Smalligan, who missed WVU's trip to the NCAAs two years ago while sitting out the season as a transfer, was a big part of the Mountaineers' NIT championship last year. However, the fact that he missed the Big Dance has always been a burr under his saddle. Thus, West Virginia's selection and trip to Washington, D.C. for a tournament date with Arizona had to be a big event for the graduating senior.

However, now that Smalligan has embarked on the much anticipated tournament quest, he is viewing things a bit differently. He isn't doing anything special to file away memories or document things that happen this week, and instead is approaching the contest much as he has other games during his career.

Before WVU's final shootaround on Wednesday, Smalligan shared his thoughts and motivation for playing well in the final event of his college career.
