A 6-2 Chicago Heights, Ill., native, Sanni is one of 52 overall Women's Basketball Coaches Association regional finalists. That group will be trimmed to 40 national finalists tomorrow, March 20. Those selected will be in the running for the 10-member State Farm Coaches' All-America Team that will be named April 5.
Sanni has guided No. 17/18 West Virginia (24-7, 12-4) to its Top 20 national ranking all season long. She leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 16.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. She has reached double figures in scoring in 26 of 31 contests this season with 11 20-point efforts and five double-doubles.
Other Region I finalists include eight players from four BIG EAST schools: Connecticut's Tina Charles, Renee Montgomery and Maya Moore; Rutgers' Matee Ajavon, Essence Carson and Epiphanny Prince; Louisville's Angel McCoughtry; and Pitt's Marcedes Walker. George Washington's Kimberly Beck was named to the list as well.
West Virginia, seeded fifth in the Spokane Region of the NCAA Tournament, returns to action Saturday, March 22, at 8:30 p.m. (EDT) when it takes on No. 12 seed New Mexico (20-12, 9-7), at The Pit, in Albuquerque, N.M., in opening round action.
