WVU Duo Detained, Arrested

Any disciplinary action against Joe Mazzulla and Cam Thoroughman will be handled within the basketball program, according to a terse statement from head coach Bob Huggins.

The duo, who were arrested Monday evening after being detained by off-duty Pittsburgh city police at PNC Park, are being charged with disorderly conduct, resiting arrest and underage drinking.

According to the complaint filed by officers on the scene, Mazzulla and Thoroughman scuffled with officers while being detained in the park's security center.

The pair were attending a major league baseball game between the hometown Pirates and the Colorado Rockies. An arraignment on the charges is expected as soon as today.

Huggins, in his only public comment, said, "We are aware of the situation. We will let the judicial process take its course and the matter will be handled internally."

Mazzulla is expected to be the starter at point guard for West Virginia this year. Thoroughman is recovering from knee surgery for an injury that hampered him through the entire 2007-08 season.
