WVU Overcomes Sluggish first half to down UNCG

West Virginia again exhibited their usual pattern in rallying to defeat UNCG 64-54 on Saturday at the WVU Coliseum.

The Mountaineers were on the short end of a 20-6 run in the first half that left them trailing by seven points at halftime. As has been the case in just about every game this year, the young West Virginia team did not panic, and ended up rallying for the ten point win.

WVU opened the second half on a 33-15 run to rally to an eleven point lead, and from there never lead by fewer than seven points in securing their fourth win of the season.

West Virginia's free throw shooting was almost their undoing, as the Mountaineers were a dismal 4-17 from the free throw line. UNCG, however, chose not to begin fouling until just under a minute remained in the contest, so three late WVU misses ended up as nothing more than a nuisance.

WVU was lead by Tyrone Sally's 20 points on 8-9 shooting. Drew Schifino added 15 and Chaz Briggs nine.
