Mountaineer Basketball Program Cleared

The NCAA notified West Virginia University Thursday that after review of the University's self report of actual and alleged rules violations involving its men's basketball program that the case should be classified as secondary and no further action will be taken in this matter.

The report conducted by WVU was submitted to the NCAA on June 20, 2002.

"West Virginia University is strongly committed to playing by the rules set forth by the NCAA," said Director of Athletics Ed Pastilong. "I compliment the very thorough investigation conducted by Brad Cox (director of compliance), Bill Quigley (director of internal audit) and Jack Bowman (faculty representative) as well as our outside counsel. The report and subsequent information provided by the group to the NCAA was very detailed and answered all questions and concerns relative to the issues."
