Palestra.net and Sean Merinar file this report from Morgantown, where Da'Sean Butler's performance powered WVU to an important Big East win over Villanova.
Butler became the first Mountaineer player to score 40 points or more in a game since Lowes Moore had 40 points at Notre Dame on Jan. 25, 1978. The 43 points marked the second-highest point total by a West Virginia player in Coliseum history. He was two points shy of Wil Robinson, who had 45 points against Penn State on Feb. 24, 1971.
It's the most points by a Big East player since Syracuse's Gerry McNamara had 43 against Brigham Young March 18, 2004 in the first round of the NCAA tournament, and is also the most points total by an individual in a BIG EAST game since Marcus Hatten of St. John's had 44 against Rutgers March 6, 2003.
