West Virginia used its 1-3-1 defense and an emphasis on toughness to smack Pitt out of the Big East tournament on Thursday.

West Virgina's 1-3-1 defense helped turn a two-point halftime advantage into a 12-point win over Pitt in the Big East quarterfinals on Thursday night at Madison Square Garden. Although he played just 33 minutes, junior forward Da'Sean Butler had some key thoughts on the effectiveness of the defense and the way in which WVU responded to Pitt's strength.
