Mountaineer Wrestlers Down Clarion

The WVU wrestling squad won a back and forth 22-14 decision over Clarion on Sunday afternoon.

The meet began at the low weight class of 125, where WVU's Seth Lisa pinned Matt Doefler of Clarion. Clarion answered with a win at 133, but then West Virginia responded with decision wins by Shane Cunanan at 141 and Bill Smith at 149.

The back and forth meet contined as Clarion won an overtime decision at 157, but the Mountaineers then put the meet away with three straight win. Tom McMath won a narrow 4-3 decision, Greg Jones put on anohter dominating performance in a 19-7 win, and Ryan Wilman pitched a 5-0 shutout a 184.

Clarion closed the gap with wins at 197 and 285, but it wasn't enough to keep the Mountaineers from moving to 2-0 in the Eastern Wrestling League.
