No Excuses

WVU defensive coordinator Jeff Casteel is never one to make excuses, and while his players put up a valiant effort in a close 24-21 loss to Cincinnati, he expressed his disappointment that the Mountaineers weren't able to pull out the win.

Cincinnati was able to put up more than 200 rushing yards on a defense that had excelled against the run, and Jeff Casteel admitted that was a key factor in the contest.

"We just didn't make enough plays on defense to turn the tide. The run game, we tried to adjust to it in the second half, but didn't do a good enough job there. "What took wind out of us was the big run with three minutes left when we had the chance to get the ball back for the offense."

Although the Mountaineers held the Bearcats to their lowest point total of the season, Casteel wasn't into any moral victories.

"We came down to win the football game, and if we didn't win, nothing else really matters."
