Schifino also played good defense as the chaser in WVU's box and one defense. He took point guard Andre Barrett out of the game for long stretches, and helped hold the Seton Hall star to 2-7 shooting from the floor.
Slow starts in both halves doomed the Mountaineer effort in the four point loss. WVU had managed just five points in the first 4:23 of the game, and also started slowly in the second half as Seton Hall pushed their lead out to double digits.
The Mountaineers, as they have all year, refused to give up, and battled back to close the lead to two points in the final three minutes of the game. The Pirates managed to hit a couple of key baskets down the strech to keep West Virginia at bay.
Kevin Pittsnogle and Joe Herber scored 11 and ten points respectively to aid the Mountaineer effort. Tyrone Sally grabbed six rebounds to tie Schifino for team high honors.
