Building From Strength

WVU assistant coach Steve Dunlap has talent at his safety positions, so one of his goals for his charges is keeping them on an improvement track.

Dunlap has veterans such as Robert Sands and Sidney Glover to serve as anchors at the safety spots and models for youngsters such as Terence Garvin and Darwin Cook, but he believes the key to continued improvement is getting everyone on an upward path. Veterans have to continue to work and not stay at the same level or drop off, and that's one of the big things the veteran coach wants to see from his players during the fall.

In this interview, Dunlap also discusses the building of depth, not only at his position, but also on special teams, where many safeties have a chance to get on the field and play. Kick and punt teams provide more opportunities for that playing time, and Dunlap hopes to see more of his charges having an impact on those units.
