Here Yesterday, Gone Today

A WVU assistant football coach had a short stay in Morgantown.

Recently hired Mountaineer assistant David Elson is returning to Western Kentucky to become the head football coach.

Elson will replace former head football coach Jack Harbaugh, who announced his resignation last week. Harbaugh did not announce any immediate plans to pursue other coaching positions. Harbaugh was selected the American Football Coaches Association national Coach of the Year after leading the Hilltoppers to a 12-3 record

Elson, who was hired by WVU on February 3, stayed in Morgantown just over a month before pinballing back to Western for the head coaching job. He was an assistant for seven seasons with the Hilltoppers, including two as defensive coordinator.

There was no immmediate word on possible replacements for Elson, although the pool of possible replacements should not take long to review, since the hiring process to hire Elson took place just a few weeks ago.
