Bulger Inks Deal

The experience of Marc Bulger loomed large as the veteran NFL quarterback signed a free agent contract with Baltimore.

A two-time Pro Bowl selection, Bulger signed a one-year contract with the Ravens to provide backup support for starter Joe Flacco. The Ravens also have Troy Smith and John Beck on the roster, but the pair have combined for just six starts in their careers, while Bulger has 95.

A training camp battle could be in the offing, but Bulger would appear to have a leg up in any competition with Smith or Beck. He could provide the veteran mentoring and fill-in experience that the Ravens have lacked.

Bulger was released by St. Louis earlier this year, mostly because the Rams did not want to pay the $8.5 million Bulger would have earned this season. Reports have the Ravens paying him $3.8 million for his services in 2010.
