Briggs added six rebounds, including four on the offensive glass, and added an assist for WVU. Briggs was West Virginia's sole inside presence against the swarming Friar defense, as Providence trapped WVU all over the court, forcing 15 turnovers and recording ten steals.
Providence rode a strong inside game and a withering defense to defeat WVU 73-50. The Friars built a 17 point halftime lead and were never seriously threatened.
The Friars were led by Ryan Gomes, who scored 26 points, many of them on baseline jumpers against WVU's 2-3 zone. Providence had 43 reobunds in the contest, and shot 46.8% from the field.
