The press release from Assistant Athletic Director for Communications Michael Fragale said Luck will not take questions because "the NCAA process is ongoing."
At a press conference on the day he was formally introduced as the new Director of Athletics at West Virginia, Luck said he was "aware" of an NCAA "issue" within the football program.
That came only days after a column from Chuck Landon in the Huntington Herald-Dispatch said that the Mountaineer athletic program had reported to the NCAA that it was guilty of breaking a rule limiting the number of coaches on the field during practices.
Landon cited anonymous sources and said the report to the NCAA would list Pat Kirkland, the program's Director of High School Relations, and Dale Wolfley, its Director of Player Development, as those who had been giving instructions during practice that should not have.
"I will say, certainly, that it's always been my experience that WVU has taken compliance extraordinarily seriously," Luck said on June 14, the day of his introductory press conference.
"I'm sure that as I learn the details of this, that we'll continue to have a very vigilant compliance program. But yes, I am aware that there is an issue there."
