Miller, Thomas On Lombardi Watch List

WVU defenders Julian Miller and J.T. Thomas are among the 87 players in a crowded preliminary watch list for the Lombardi Award.

Julian Miller has steadily improved over his Mountaineer career, and appears to be primed for even more accolades this year. In 2009, he recorded 53 tackles and nine sacks. fourteen of those stops came behind the line of scrimmage.

J.T. Thomas hopes to cap his career with his finest season, but he has already accomplished plenty in the Mountaineer uniform. He has 162 tackles, nine pass breakups and four sacks during his time at West Virginia.

Eligibility for the award is limited to down linemen and linbebackers who set up no further than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball or no further than five yards away from the line of scrimmage. Candidates earn a place on the official watch list by earning All-America or All-Conference first team honors, or by nominations submitted by the school.

The Rotary Lombardi Selection Committee, comprised of more than 500 members, evaluates candidates throughout the season before selecting 12 semifinalists.

The 41st annual award celebration will be held on Dec. 7-8 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Tx.
