Although he has playing experience from his freshman year to fall back in, there's something different about being "the guy". Smith is in just that position as he prepares to face Coastal Carolina on Saturday, but he's trying to keep things in perspective.
Smith doesn't want to be cast as just "managing the game" but he also acknowledges that he has talented teammates to help carry the load. He knows that quarterback is the focal point of the offense, and as such often gets the lion's share of focus, praise or blame, depending on the outcome of the game. His realization of this, as well as the way in which he answered questions on Tuesday, bodes well for his continued maturation as "the guy".
