WKU to Conference USA on Monday

WKU will officially announce a move to Conference USA on Monday, April 1, according to Chad Bishop of the Bowling Green Daily News.

The months of speculation are finally over.

According to Chad Bishop of the Bowling Green Daily News, Western Kentucky will officially announce an accepted invitation to join Conference USA as early as Monday, April 1.

WKU will begin play in Conference USA in 2014.

The Hilltoppers left the Ohio Valley Conference to join the Sun Belt Conference in 1982, although the football program did not join until 2007, completing the transition from the Gateway Conference to the Sun Belt in 2009.

According to WKUSports.com, Western Kentucky has won 82 Sun Belt Conference championships since 2000, the most of any school in the conference.

Middle Tennessee, who is also moving to Conference USA, is second with 48 championships.

Scheduled teams to be in Conference USA after WKU joins in 2014 include:


Florida Atlantic

Florida International

Louisiana Tech


• Middle Tennessee

North Texas

• Old Dominion


• Southern Mississippi

• Texas-San Antonio
