Mims talks WKU visit

6-foot-2 cornerback Martavius Mims visited Western Kentucky over the Oct. 26 weekend. Read the details on his recruitment inside.

Muscle Shoals (Ala.) athlete Martavius Mims was one of 70+ recruits to visit Western Kentucky's campus for their homecoming matchup against Troy.

The festivities made a big impression on the 6-foot-2, 180 pound recruit during his unofficial trip.

"It (the visit) was great," Mims said. "The atmosphere of the place was awesome.

"Everyone (interested programs) is pretty much equal, but after being at WKU they have a slight edge."

"I plan on committing to a school soon after the season is over."

Other schools looking at the senior standout include UAB and Minnesota, among several others.

He plans to tour UAB on an unofficial over the Nov. 2 weekend, in addition to official visits to Minnesota and WKU in December.

Topper assistant coach Nick Holt is in charge of his recruitment, and the two are making sure to stay in touch.

"We talk almost once a week," the athlete said. "He's a real cool guy and a great coach."

It's often said that you can't teach size and speed in sports.

The cliche is certainly true in Mims' case.

"My strengths are my height and size at the cornerback position," he said. "As well as my ball skills."
