Trio leads WKU past Southern Illinois, 69-60

The win moves WKU to 5-3 on the season, and Southern Illinois falls to 2-7

Carbondale, Ill.--Brandon Harris' career-high 30 points, including eight three-pointers, coupled with 19 points from George Fant and 11 points, eight rebounds, four blocked shots and two assists from Aaron Adeoye powered the Hilltoppers past Southern Illinois Saturday afternoon, 69-60.

The win moves WKU to 5-3 on the season, and Southern Illinois falls to 2-7. The victory was WKU's first non-conference road win since exactly two years ago, December 7, 2011, also at Southern Illinois.

Harris' eight three-pointers were one shy of tying the school record and marked the first time a Hilltopper had eight three-pointers in a game since Anthony Winchester at Eastern Kentucky on December 3, 2005.

WKU finished the game shooting 41.2 percent (21-for-51) from the floor and went 10-for-30 from three-point arc and 17-for-22 (.773) from the free throw line. The Hilltoppers won the battle of the boards, 30-29, and had 12 assists and just nine turnovers. Only two turnovers came in the second half.

Southern Illinois shot 46.7 percent (21-for-45) in the game.

WKU has now won four-straight games against the Salukis.

After a break for final examinations, WKU concludes a three-game road swing next Saturday, December 14, at nationally-ranked Louisville. The game will be televised on ESPN2 and broadcast on the radio on the Hilltopper IMG Sports Network, airing locally in Bowling Green on WKLX-FM Sam 100.7, with Randy Lee and Hal Schmitt on the call. After the game with the Cardinals, WKU returns home to start a four-game homestand on Wednesday, December 18 against Southern Miss.
